ANMF federal council rejects AMA’s GP fee

The Federal Council of Australia’s largest health union, the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) this afternoon expressed its “strong disappointment at the announcement by the Australian Medical Association (AMA) to support a GP co-payment”.

Meeting in Hobart, Members of the Federal Council issued the following statement:

While the AMA proposal seeks to soften the Government’s budget measure, no amount of tinkering around the edges changes the fact that a co-payment undermines the universality of Medicare and will adversely impact on many groups in our community.

“The ANMF will continue to campaign against a GP co-payment and calls upon the Australian Parliament to reject these proposals.”

The ANMF, with over 233,000 members, is the professional and industrial voice for nurses, midwives and assistants in nursing in Australia.
