3rd Biennial Australian Capital Region Nursing & Midwifery Research Centre Conference
Conferences
The 3rd Biennial Australian Capital Region Nursing and Midwifery Research Centre Conference is being held at the Hyatt Hotel in Canberra on 16 and 17 October 2014. The conference theme ‘Setting an Agenda for Nurses and Midwives in the 21st Century’ recognises that in our nursing and midwifery practices, greater success occurs when we use an agenda that provides a robust framework for working together. This agenda includes ongoing learning and acceptance that change is necessary to achieve improved patient/ client focused services and outcomes. Concurrent sessions are an integral part of this conference as they give nurses and midwives opportunities to share their work with their colleagues. Mental health nursing has been allocated a specific day on the first day of the conference as mental disorders constitute 24% of disability burden within Australia. A National Health Priority is the prevention, management and treatment of mental illness. This day has its own plenary speaker and runs concurrently with other nursing components of the conference. In recognition of Midwifery as a standalone profession, this conference provides on the second day a specific midwifery day with its own Keynote speaker. This day runs concurrently with the nursing components of the conference.
