Late on 24 November 2021, the NSW government hastily forced the lower house to vote on their repeal amendment which aims to strip current COVID-19 protections from workers’ compensation laws.
If it passes both houses of parliament, this amendment will repeal s19B of the workers compensation act which gives protection to essential workers who contract COVID-19 so they do not have to prove the transmission occurred at work in order to receive compensation.
The amendment only just scraped through, passing the lower house at midnight by a single vote, with government MPs choosing to financially burden frontline workers who contract COVID-19. Find your local member in the list below.
