Short stories and poems 2014

short story logo We celebrated International Midwives’ and International Nurses’ Days 2014 with our inaugural Short Story & Poetry Competition. First State Super sponsored the first prize of $2000 and two prizes for runners-up of $500 each. The official winners chosen by the panel of judges were announced on 30 April. Arch Sirodom, a student nurse from Lewisham, claimed the $2000 first prize, sponsored by First State Super, with his short story Her Smile. The two runner-up prizes of $500 each were won by registered nurse Mary Perry of Como for Those were the days…, about nurses’ preparedness for all situations, and The Ambulance by Kathleen Wurth from Hinton, about a scene from a palliative care nurse’s day. The Readers’ Choice vote closed on May 19 and was won by Ariane Blom of Belrose with her story Serendipity.  Ariane won $500 sponsored by the NSWNMA.
