  • Permanent ongoing employment may be available and offered at the completion of the GradStart program (subject to satisfactory performance and vacancies). Permanent employment may be possible either in the employing facility or in other Western NSW Local Health District facilities (subject to vacancies)
  • Rotations include: General nursing, Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Operating Theatre, Mental Health Inpatient Unit, Paediatrics/ Special Care Nursery, Renal Dialysis Unit, Community Health.
  • Every effort will be made to provide requested clinical rotations
  • Transitional Registered Nurses will have up to 2 rotations which are a combination of General/ Specialty and/or Rural/ Remote Health Services. Rotations are subjected to negotiation with the Facility Manager.
  • Offers 5-day formal Orientation
  • For new graduates working in Rural and Remote or Mental Health facilities, or commencing a first rotation in Mental Health, a further week of specialised orientation will be provided
  • 2 days supernumerary
  • Support transitional Registered Nurses & Midwives as they integrate theoretical and practical skills and knowledge
  • Provide a flexible, Individualised, and professional position which are responsive to the needs of the transitional Nurse/ Midwife and the Health Service

Bathurst Hospital

  • February and June intakes
  • 3 x 4-month ward rotations

Dubbo Hospital

  • February, June, and October intakes
  • 3 x 4-month ward rotations

Orange Hospital

  • February and June intakes
  • 2 x 6-month ward rotations 

Bloomfield Hospital

  • February intake
  • 2 x 6-month ward rotations

Central Sector

  • February intake with 1 x 12-month rotation
  • August intake with 2 x 6-month rotations
  • 2 x 6-month rotations: Gilgandra/Dubbo exchange, Gulargambone/Dubbo Exchange, Peak Hill/Dubbo Exchange
  • 12 months in Narromine
  • 3 x 4-month rotations in Tottenham/Trundle/Tullamore Exchange

Northern Sector

  • February or August intake
  • 1 x 12-month rotation commencing February in either Coonamble, Lightning Ridge, Nyngan, Walgett
  • 2 x 6-month rotation commencing August in Dubbo/Walgett exchange

Southern Sector

  • February intake with 1 x 12-month rotation in Cowra or Forbes
  • February and June intakes with1 x 12-month in Parkes
  • August intake with 2 x 6-month rotation in the Blayney/Bathurst Exchange, Grenfell/Orange Exchange, Mudgee/Rylstone Exchange

Metro-Rural Exchange with SLHD

  • August intake as a 2 x 6-month rotation between SLHD and WNSELHD
  • Rotations include: Baradine MPS / Concord Hospital, Collarenebri MPS / Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Condobolin MPS / Canterbury Hospital, Walgett MPS / Royal Prince Alfred Hospital

Midwifery GradStart

  • 2 x 6-month rotation between Parkes and Forbes maternity services with Lachlan Health Service
  • Midwives will have to opportunity to work across all areas of Midwifery practice. These may include: Antenatal clinics, High risk antenatal clinics, Birth suite, Postnatal ward, Postnatal clinics, Outpatient clinics, Outreach / group practice, Special Care Nursery.
  • A 5-day formal Orientation
  • 2 days Supernumerary
  • Opportunity to be permanently employed after completing the GradStart program.
