The New South Wales Nurses and Midwives’ Association (NSWNMA) in association with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation New South Wales Branch (ANMF NSW Branch) seeks an Industrial Officers to join our Public Health Organising team on a 12-month temporary full-time basis.

You will be working for a highly respected association and one of the strongest and largest unions nationally. We have a successful track record of being a strong advocate for our members which is evident by our year-on-year membership growth.

 

 About the role:

We have a great opportunity on offer for someone who has a passion and commitment to the Trade Union to join our team and specialise in the conduct of industrial, technical and representative aspects of organising campaigns. You will be a self – starter and bring a high level of initiatives to manage a range of complex issues/matters simultaneously. You will be a strong communicator and can influence positive outcomes. Someone who brings a data, research and analytics mindset will be key attributes to success in this role.

The role is a 12-month temporary full-time opportunity based at our office in our Waterloo office, but travel is required, and it is essential for candidates to hold a current driver’s license.

 

Other key responsibilities:

  • This person will play a key role in empowering member leaders and grow the unions workplace power in areas determined as per the strategic priorities
  • Organise high density, action-focused member-lead networks.
  • Building member-led collective action with the view to win.
  • Provide professional leadership and direction to Organisers on industrial issues.

 

Essential Selection Criteria:

  1. Demonstrated commitment to strive for the advancement of nurses and midwives and their professions.
  2. Thorough working knowledge of contemporary industrial relations legislation and practices and adaptability to changing legislative regimes.
  3. Specific knowledge and preferably experience in the negotiation of collective agreements and tribunal advocacy.
  4. Developed negotiation, advocacy and representation skills.
  5. Experience in program/project development, implementation and evaluation ability including skills such as co-ordination, highly developed consultation skills.
  6. Ability to exercise accurate and high-level judgment about industrial issues, including those with union-wide sensitivity or implications, commensurate with level of experience in the role.
  7. Can operate and deliver outcomes in a political environment and be flexible to adapt to changing priorities in high pressure situations to deliver outcomes.
  8. Embrace organising frameworks in your execution of bargaining campaigns; or where not able to demonstrate this at the point of employment, a willingness to learn and apply these
  9. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Internet etc).
  10. Can relate and build good relationships with key stakeholder groups.

 

Desirable:

  • Experience in related fields such as work as an Organiser, industrial research officer or employment/IR lawyer is an additional benefit
  • Prior working experience in the trade union movement is an additional benefit
