International Women’s Day rally

Happy International Women’s Day. It’s a day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women around the world.

It is also a time to reflect on how far we still need to go to achieve gender equality and an end to family violence.

IWDThis Saturday hundreds of women will take part in the International Women’s Day march calling for an end to violence against women.

Across Australia the demand for refuges is so high that every second woman is turned away. In NSW 80 domestic violence assaults occur every single day.

This situation is unacceptable at a time when domestic violence is receiving so much attention. Governments need to stop paying lip service and provide the leadership and funding needed to end violence. How can we tell women ‘you don’t have to put up with it’ and then let them down when they reach out for help?

Join us on Saturday 12 March to march to end violence against women. 11.30am, Archibald Fountain, Hyde Park North.
