Liverpool Hospital mental health nurse tragedy

The NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association (NSWNMA) expresses our sincere condolences to the family, friends and coworkers of a well-respected Mental Health nurse who tragically lost his life while working in Liverpool Hospital’s Mental Health Service on Friday morning.

NSWNMA General Secretary, Brett Holmes, said the incident that occurred in a rehabilitation ward of the mental health unit had taken a heavy toll on the 49 year old mental health nurse’s colleagues.

“Our immediate thoughts and deepest sympathies are with our member’s family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time,” said Mr Holmes.

“He was a very well-known Clinical Nurse Educator and a highly respected mentor to mental health nurses throughout the South Western Sydney mental health service.

“We are providing support directly to our members who’ve been impacted by this devastating tragedy and we are assisting with all necessary investigations now underway.

“Nurses never go to work expecting not to return home to their loved ones. It is a heartbreaking tragedy.”
