About us:
The New South Wales Nurses and Midwives’ Association (NSWNMA) in association with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation New South Wales Branch (ANMF NSW Branch) seeks an Member Development Officer to join our Public Health Organising team on a 12-month temporary part-time basis.
You will be working for a highly respected association and one of the strongest and largest unions nationally. We have a successful track record of being a strong advocate for our members which is evident by our year-on-year membership growth.
About the team:
The Public Health Organising (PHO) team is a multi-disciplinary team composed of organisers, industrial officers and campaign support staff. PHO exists to develop membership, leadership and sustainable union structures in the Public Health System. We campaign with members for ratios, better pay and other improvements to members’ working lives, by combining local organising and industrial enforcement and sector-wide campaigns.
We have a great opportunity for someone to join us in with the primary focus supporting an increase in membership density in universities and other learning institutions offering nursing and midwifery education. The role is to establish and maintain effective relationships and identify and develop student activists and promote the activities of our Union for the future welfare of aspiring nurses and midwives.
The role is a temporary part time, 14-hour week and based in our Waterloo office with hybrid options available.
All applicants must hold a Full and current NSW Drivers Licence.
Key accountabilities include:
- Work under the guidance and mentorship of the Leads and Manager, Public Health Organising Team to contribute to the performance outcomes of the team.
- Maintain a plan of work which ensures that university visits, team meetings, and meetings with team manager are undertaken.
- Identify and develop leaders within the Associate student membership.
- Promote the benefits of our Union and participate in campaigns as directed.
Selection Criteria:
- Current enrolment in a Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery and successful completion of the first year.
- Demonstrated commitment to the union movement and union membership is essential.
- Ability to contribute and work within a team.
- Commitment to developing associate union members.
- Demonstrated experience in thinking analytically.
- Strong networking skills and ability to form strong alliances.
