The NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association (NSWNMA) expresses our sincere thoughts and concern for Independent Member for Indi, Dr Helen Haines, after an attack outside her federal electorate office yesterday.
Dr Haines is a former nurse, midwife and rural health researcher, and a cherished member of the Australian health community. She has been an unwavering advocate for the nursing and midwifery professions through her time in parliament, and has served as the inaugural co-chair of the Parliamentary Friends of Nursing.
Our thoughts are also with Helen’s family, friends and the local community, as well as the first responders and healthcare workers looking after Dr Haines at this traumatic time.
