The rising level of violence and aggression being experienced by health workers is abhorrent.
This is a systemic issue across the entire health sector – public, private, aged care, mental health and community health workers are all being impacted.
Nurses and midwives offer their in principle support to the Health Services Union members (paramedics, cleaners, hospital administration, security guards and other allied health workers) who have voted to take protected industrial action on 1 August 2019. However, rostered nurses and midwives will remain at the bedside in hospitals and other health settings across the state.
Current violence prevention measures are clearly inadequate and require urgent attention.
The NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association will continue to raise concerns directly with the Minister for Health and the NSW Ministry of Health on this important issue.
